Bench Seat, Bath Floor Tile & Trim

Progress Update

This Hyattsville Renovation project adds a finished second story to a 1923 home. When complete, it will feature two bedrooms, full bath, den area and storage. The owners had the home tested for lead and all of our work areas were lead free.

Bench Seat in Den Area

We used recycled oak to create the bench seat in the
den area. (Recycled pine is difficult to find and expensive.)

This will be sanded and finished with the floors.

Basket Weave Tile Floor

The tile floor is completed and the tile wainscot is ready to begin. We waterproofed the floor and walls (covered by tile) to remedy splashing from rambunctious play in the claw foot tub later.

Front Bedroom

Front bedroom: The 4-1/4” wide stock window and door trim closely resembles the original first floor, 1923 trim, but without the custom milling price tag. We milled the custom door plinths and the wide window mullions on site to match those on the first floor.

Single Panel Door

Single Panel Door: We ordered a custom height door. It’s not always less expensive to site build custom wood work.

We will have it in prior to project completion and anticipate NO delays.

Wall Colors In Progress for 2nd Story Addition

As you can see, the Owner is working on selecting wall colors with help from the kids.

Testimonials

  • Judy and Norm Shackelton, Annapolis, Maryland

    First project: Custom home

    Second project: Deck railing

Third project: Added basement wall partition for workshop

Villa Builders built us a very beautiful, high quality home. Both Jeff and Joanne were very nice to deal with. They took on the challenge to work with us while we were still living ‘out of state'. It was a challenge for all of us but all worked out well.
