"Almost like family..."

After ten years, three remodeling projects and an assortment of miscellaneous fix-it jobs, it’s no wonder Ray and Jan Christensen think of Jeff and Joanne Hall of Villa Builders as part of the family. When the Halls came into their lives, the Christensens had already added a front porch, had it covered and completed a full kitchen remodel on their 1980s Arnold home. “The people who did the kitchen did a beautiful job, but they weren’t reliable, didn’t always show up as stated, and didn’t call,” said Jan. “We never had that problem with Villa Builders. If they said they would be there, they were there.”

"Very dependable. That's a huge thing for us."ChristensenMBath5.JPG

The first project Villa took on was to replace four skylights. Jeff did the work himself, and the Christensens liked the outcome.

A few years later, after Ray underwent heart bypass surgery, the couple decided to modify their master bathroom to make the shower more accessible. The project involved ripping out a glass enclosed combination bathtub-shower and replacing it with a tiled walk-in shower and tiled bathroom floor. “We sat down [with Jeff] and talked in great detail about the project. Jeff was amenable to our ideas and explained everything about the process along the way.”

Jan, usually has a good idea of what she wants. She presented her ideas to Villa and they provided an estimate. The Christensen’s really appreciated that Villa kept to the price they were given. “I don’t think they’ve ever gone over budget,” Jan said. As part of the next home improvement upgrade, the Christensens decided to redo their master bedroom and upgrade their master bath. Villa Builders stripped the bedroom of wallpaper, repainted it, and installed new crown molding. In the bathroom, only the tiled, walk-in shower and floor, previously completed by Villa, were kept. Villa removed two separate vanities. The vanity that was in the same room as the shower and toilet was replaced with a crème colored shelving storage unit. In a separate area, between the bathroom and walk-in closet, Villa installed a two-sink vanity storage unit that matched the shelving unit. At each sink Villa installed new, deep-set mirrored medicine cabinets and new three-light fixtures. They also added a marble backsplash. To further enhance storage capability, Villa placed a matching enclosed shelving unit between the two sinks. These upgrades resulted in much needed storage space for the Christensens.

As part of the master bedroom/bath project, Villa also remodeled the downstairs powder room. Unexpectedly, when they removed the original vanity, they discovered there was no finished flooring underneath it. Since the replacement unit was smaller, the project required that Villa match the existing wood floors. The result transformed a small, utilitarian space into a custom, upscale room that better suited their needs and their tastes, right down to the antique crème freestanding vanity and backsplash, a fancy antique mirror and new lighting to complete the new look.

"They're commited to doing things right."

After the bedroom and two bathroom projects, the Christensens next contacted Villa about problems with the floor of their garage, which had sunk five or six inches and cracked near where the floor abutted the house. When Jeff came out to look at it, it became clear that at least one-half of the floor would have to be removed and new supports of stone and rebar added to shore it up and stop it from settling again. When they had questions about how to fix the problem, Ray said, “Jeff explained why it had to be done right.”

Because of their experience with Villa Builders time after time, the Christensens didn’t hesitate to call Jeff again when they then decided to gut and remodel their upstairs guest bathroom. Everything down to the moldings and ceramic tile pick up the antique brass and gold tones in the fixtures, and the white, tan, and brown colors used throughout the bathroom. “They aren’t inexpensive, but we wanted the quality of the work Villa provides.” This last bathroom, Ray said to Jan: “You can’t tell me it’s going to cost that much.” After the work was done, the Christensens saw an HGTV program where a similar project was more costly than the one they had just completed.

ChristensenGuestBath1.JPGWe feel very attached to them."

After ten years and a lot of time together, the Christensens can’t say enough good things about Villa Builders. “They create a quality product. They follow through on what they say they’re going to do and keep to the schedule. They are very reliable and honest, and amenable to adjustments. Their people have been courteous and trustworthy. They are almost like family.”

Kudos like that only come from completely satisfied customers. “It’s truly wonderful,” says Jan, “because if I want to do something, we just call and have Jeff take a look and have coffee. We like them and how they handle the initial conversation from ‘is it realistic’ to ‘can it be done.’ They have always worked with us.” If and when additional changes to the home are desired, the Christensens will always turn to Villa Builders.
