A Closer Look at Two Bathroom Remodeling Projects in Severna Park, Maryland
Complete Bathroom Remodel
The owners liked the location of the existing bath but it was dated and didn’t meet concerns for future accessibility. The entry doors were already just wide enough for a wheel chair, but the existing tub was not accessible. This bath serves as a first floor powder room used by visitors and a guest bath for overnight guests, so, they wanted to incorporate beautiful finishes and add some much needed jazz.
The tub was removed, and an additional foot was taken from an adjoining closet to create the new shower space, eliminating the need for a fully enclosed shower. The new floor of the shower is flush and curbless. The shower was widened to accommodate the potential need for wheel chair accessibility.
Artesan Stone in Ivory Antiqued tumbled marble is featured on the walls and shower floor. In the shower and vanity backsplash are Island Stone Pebbles in Flores Green. The vessel sink is by Derose.
This bathroom is a double award winner, winning a Professional Remodeler Best of the Best Design Silver Award and a NARI Capital CotY Honorable Mention Award Residential Bath.
Partial Bathroom Remodel, Phased
The goal of the project was to dress up the space by replacing some of its worn and dated components and details.
The vanity cabinet, faucets, toilet, soaking tub, tile floor, and finish hardware were replaced several years ago.
The first priority was changing the old, laminate vanity top. Originally, the homeowner expressed an interest in using the Cambria Natural Quartz material featured in her award winning kitchen. During the selection process though, she changed her mind when she eyed a beautiful granite remnant. The Sapphire Blue granite has a French Ogee edge detail.
Rather than re-use the existing sinks as planned, she opted for (2) Caxton, Kohler under-mount sinks and we re-installed the original faucets.
The 80's mirrored, medicine cabinet was replaced with two recessed mirrored, medicine cabinets that were 'ganged' together to form a single unit.
