1. It's the Law! Federal law requires that individuals receive certain information before renovating six square feet or more of painted surfaces in a room for interior projects or more than twenty square feet of painted surfaces for exterior projects in housing, child care facilities and schools built before 1978.
The EPA issued a rule, effective April 22, 2010, requiring the use of lead-safe practices and other actions aimed at preventing lead poisoning. Under the rule, beginning in April 2010, contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects (RRP) that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools before 1978 must be certified and must follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. For more information visit http://www.epa.gov/lead/pubs/renovation.htm#requirements. "RRP Rule assumes that any house built before 1978 contains lead-based paint, unless the house has been tested for lead-based paint and the results indicate that the house and/or impacted component does not contain lead-based paint." (Certified Renovator Initial Course Manual) If your home was built before 1978 and you have questions about the new requirements, please give us a call at (410)349-3282 or send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
